Roscommon, MI
We roll into the park shortly after 1 AM. I am shocked that there is actually someone in the registration hut for check in. He is equally shocked when I walk through the door. He asks for my license plate and I hand him my drivers license. He stares at it for a few seconds and I stare at him blankly before it clicks. I walk out and take a picture of my plate, but the flash does me dirty and when I get back inside I realize I cannot read it. In the meantime, Gob has managed to run circles around me and I am tangled in his leash. I literally hop out to stare at my car again and return muttering the letters and numbers under my breath repeatedly. I apologize for being a train wreck and hobble out the door, Gob still tangled in my legs. In my awkwardness I realize I have no idea where my campsite is, and I cannot see the site numbers in the dark. I see an empty site and decide to pull in for the night, assuming nobody would be as psychotic as me and roll in this late. Much to my surprise, this was actually my campsite.

Today I learned that Gob has become accustomed to our morning runs. As the sun begins to rise, right around 6 AM, Gob decides it is time to start our day. He is overjoyed at the discovery that we are right by a lake and he can take a morning swim. I am less joyous until we get back to camp and I am able to make some coffee.

A quick drive across the street and we are at our first hike. We start at another lake. And while I take in the scenery, Gob hunts muskrats and frogs in the reeds. Both content, we start into the 5 mile loop.

5 miles through a forest of white pines and cedar trees. Large ferns edge the trail. The light peaking through the canopy casts marvelous shadows. The green-ness of it all is captivating.

Every now and then, the light shines behind Gob, reminding me that he is a mythical creature of fluffiness.

The rest of the time, the light is simply making everything else appear magical.

First hike done. We load back into the car to continue our weekend roadtrip. Quick pit stops for dog food, donuts, and pasties, and we arrive at destination #2.
