Lake Hudson Recreation Area

July 10, 2022

Clayton, MI

Gob and I are reunited after a weekend apart. He was forced to stay at a friend’s house while M and I were at a family function. And I promised him that if he behaved, I would take him camping as a reward. So here we find ourselves (even though he didnt fully behave). As I set up the camp site, Gob wastes no time bounding through the trees and into the lake directly behind us. He takes a quick soak before we find the trail and do some exploring.

This trail, the only trail in the park, will take us past the boat dock, to a non-dog-friendly beach, and then to a pavilion. Three miles round trip. All along the lake. So Gob will have plenty of opportunities to cool off from this scorching heat. The boat dock is packed with families fishing and enjoying the water, so we slip through as quickly as possible.

At the beach, Gob wants very much to go in. But alas, multiple signs say he cannot. We amble on in search for a place he can dip his toes.

A small trail by the pavilion takes us to the water’s edge. With no signs banning him, Gob is all too thrilled to jump in. We take a pause in the shade of a large tree before hiking back to camp. Gob takes this opportunity to roll and snooze in the grass.

The field mice are very active on our hike back. Gob darts to and fro to investigate the rustling weeds. His hops give more rabbit than fox, and as such he catches no mice for dinner. He takes a sunset dip back at camp while I prepare our dinners.

Bellies full and bodies tired from our day of adventure, Gob is quick to fall asleep. He knows he better rest up for more adventures tomorrow.
