Rogers City, MI
The picnic tables are still frozen in their winter positions. I assume it’s the thawing of the earth that slowly lowers them back to all fours.
The spring sun streams through the still bare branches of this dune forest. But it is not enough for me to shed my jacket. Gob waits (im)patiently while I pause every few minutes to take a picture. His nose can smell that water that he can’t yet see, and he can barely contain his excitement.

Which probably explains his face when I make him stop for some selfies. I promise he actually loves me. And getting picked up.

The forest opens up abruptly to sandy shores. And Gob is off like a cannon barking at the unruly waves crashing about.

I let him splash and play and get all of his barks out. Or at least I think I do. But then he sees a seagull and he’s convinced he can catch it. He cannot. So we head back into the forest in defeat. Only to stumble upon a shelter house and beach boardwalk. An extra 10 degrees of warmth and this would be an excellent spot to plop and waste a day.
