Cheboygan, MI
I’m not sure where the wrong turn was made, but suddenly I am in Hawaii. I look around expecting to be greeted with a lei and handed a drink in a coconut. Unfortunately, Gob and I are the only two stirring in this sleepy town, so the greeting goes unmade.
We make a bee line for the water and sand, and the mirage of Hawaii quickly disappears. It’s frigid. Which should be no surprise because it is not even 50 degrees outside. But the water is serene, crystal clear, and reflecting the blue sky just beautifully. Gob and I lounge on the weathered dock, immersing ourselves in the silence.

Until Gob sees a duck. And then he lunges into the water. Peaceful moment gone. We walk around the rest of the day use area, wandering aimlessly from the lack of a trail. Then we load back into the car and wave “aloha” to the park.
