March 25-26, 2022
Newaygo, MI
Spring has sprung, so a-camping we must go! I glance at the weather report, see a hint of snow and freezing overnight lows, and promptly ignore them. Aside from packing two sleeping bags and warm clothes that is. Because again I shall repeat: SPRING HAS SPRUNG!
Girl and Dog, back at it again with a planned multi-day-muti-park adventure!

We begin at the deserted banks of the Hardy Dam Pond. Shocking that nobody else is out on this beautiful (barely above freezing and threatening an ice-snow mix) spring day. But I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. An empty trail is our favorite trail.

We emerge from the woods and decide to take a walk on the sandy beach. Sure there is still lots of ice on the water. And it is barely above freezing. But the sun is out, and I can see some blue amidst the clouds, so I will pretend.

We walk a mile or so along the beach, then turn back and head up to the woods to continue along the “Dragon Trail“.

I have tuckered out the pup, and it is beginning to rain. So we head back to the car to relax. And eventually we fall asleep.
And because this is Michigan, a big middle finger was raised with the sun. As we peeled off our blankets, we also had to scrape of a layer of ice and snow. Ah, Midwest, how I will not miss thee.
