Hartwick Pines State Park

Grayling, MI

I said I would return (see post below from first visit), and so I have. Once again the last stop on a whirlwind weekend tour, but this time I am more energized for it. Mother replaces dog. Snow replaces sun. Ok, we still have beautiful sunny blue skies, but there is definitely lots of snow. And this time we take to the Aspen Loop.

My last stop of a long weekend of travel. I am tired and contemplate skipping it altogether. But I am a slave to the itinerary, and my dog has some energy he needs to get out. I choose the AuSable Trail because it crosses a river, and Gob deserves a good swim.

I feel guilty about these “last stops” on my treks. I never give them the energy they deserve. It turns into a task to check off the list rather than an experience to take in. I spend my walk creating to-do lists for home and fretting about work. No longer am I frolicking after my dog, breathing in the fresh air all the way to the bottom of my lungs. Thankfully he is having enough fun for the both of us.

My only consolation is the fact that I will return to this park…or so a different itinerary says.
