The park is busier than I remember from last time. Probably the holiday weekend. I manage to get Gob to sit still long enough to snap a few pictures, but not the one I wanted. He would not sit quietly for the 3 minutes it would have taken for the raft to be centered in my shot. Too many squirrels that needed chased, and too much water he was not allowed in. So we aborted the mission.

7:00 am – As has become standard, I wake up to the car already moving. Gob sees me stir and comes over for more snuggles. We fall back asleep. Mason continues to drive.
9:30 am – We arrive at Kitchitikipi – a beautiful spring-fed lake within Palms Book State Park. Gob wants to get in the water, but he is not allowed. The pictures hardly do it justice, but they are better than my words.

All three of us board a raft that takes you out to the center of the lake and back. There is a hole in the center that allows you to look down to the bottom. The water is a deep emerald green. It’s 45 feet deep at the center, but the water is so clear that you can see all the way to the bottom. Giant fish swim in a pack at one side. Swirling circles mark where the springs feed the lake from the bottom.

Mason captains the raft on our way back to shore. Gob is a good skipper.
