Manistique, MI
We arrive shortly before the sun has completely set and quickly set up camp. I force Gob into a stroll down to the lake to feast our eyes on the cotton candy sky. Gob is upset I don’t let him swim yet, but nobody wants to snuggle a wet dog.

Once the sun is completely gone, we hear fireworks start in the distance. Gob lets out a single woof to make sure we know he is displeased, but then he curls up in the car and we go to sleep.
We start early the next morning. I have a date with donuts back in Mackinaw and I can’t be late. We hit the trails and enjoy a beautiful stroll through the pine forest. Gob has found his energy again, running ahead and jumping in every stream and puddle.

Our trail meets up with the lake. A family of ducks takes note of the birddog and retreats into the water. Gob overestimates his swimming prowess and goes in after them. Soon they are halfway across the lake, and poor Gob is a mere 10 feet from shore. I make him turn back and we continue on our way.

Back amongst the trees and wildflowers, Gob keeps looking back to the lake. He does not understand why we can’t take the shoreline back to the car.

Final planned destination done. We decide to stop at Palms Book State Park again to visit kitchitikipi, curious if anything has changed in the 3 years since we’ve been there.
