Bewabic State Park

July 3, 2021

Crystal Falls, MI

It is only when I trick others into joining me for adventures that I come to terms with my insanity. We have been on 3 “hikes” before lunch. Though not on my itinerary, I agree to stop for a bite to eat. We get some barbeque to go and have a lovely picnic at the park. As we finish eating I ask who is ready for another 2 miles. No one answers. It is at this moment that my friends desert me to continue their travels. Only Gob remains – ever faithful to the adventure.

As we start down the paved path I realize that even my adventure mutt is wearing out. There are no tugs on the leash to explore the forest. Until we hit the lake. And then in true fashion, there is no force in the world that will keep him out. He takes a dip, then is ready to hit the dirt path.

The light beams through the canopy in magnificent fashion. We make a short attempt at trail running, but I immediately trip over a root and we decide walking is the safer bet. Gob is not in the mood to model today, opting to stay right at my side like the good boy he (rarely) is. The trail loops us through the campsites before taking us back to the lake. Gob demands another swim.

Gob climbs back into the car and is immediately asleep. He takes comfort in the fact that our hikes are done for the day. Just one quick pit-stop-photo-op and then it’s camp for the night.
