Maybury State Park

2/14/2021

Northville, MI

It is once again cold and snowy. But it would appear that the rest of the world is sick of staying inside. The parking lot is packed. Lots of groups of hikers. A few people with dogs. Even some bikers with snow tires braving the elements. Our main goal of this adventure is trying out Gob’s new shoes.

The crowd is stressing me out. What happened to my secluded trails and minimal human contact? What’s worse, Gob is picking up on my stress. We spend about 10 minutes hiding in the woods beside the trail, waiting for the bridge to clear off before we try to cross it. Our opening comes, and we run for it.

Now across the bridge, we are halfway around the lake. The trail is looking busier. There are tracks across the lake, and it has been well below freezing for quite some time now. We risk it, dashing across the open expanse.

Our jaunt is short, but it gets the job done.
