Brighton Rec Area

Howell, MI

The first adventure as an official Gander. I’ve decided that on my days off, I’m going to take the pup for a trail run. I’ve chosen my trail ahead of time. The only problem is, I cannot find it. Instead, I have found the “Found Loop” as it is so appropriately named.

We start in the woods. This mountain bike trail is twisting with curves, dotted with hills. Eventually the woods thin into a prairie. A very brief interlude of flat before looping back into the shade. We have only gone 2 miles, about half of what I had planned. But the terrain made this more difficult than I was expecting. We get in the car and drive around a bit. Gob gets some water. I find coffee in a nearby town. I will return next week to try to find my original trail.

This time I have found my trail. Still a mountain biking trail, but again we are the only weirdos in sight. The terrain feels like an obstacle course. Gob and I enjoy the difficult scrambles up hills. Gob takes the time to dip into every puddle remaining from our recent rain. I try to jump over them. In the end, we are covered in mud. Gob could not be happier.
